Property Check Request
Step 1
Elizabeth Police Department offers property checks as a complimentary service to our community. We can conduct periodic checks while you are out of town for up to 14 days.
This service helps protect temporarily unoccupied homes and gives homeowners peace of mind while traveling. Unfortunately, we cannot do property checks on houses that are vacant or for extended periods of time.
Recommended safety steps:
- Use good locks on all doors and windows.
- Make sure your residence looks lived in, not empty.
- Leave blinds and shades in a normal position.
- Ask a neighbor to watch your residence while you are away.
- Test smoke and burglar alarms.
- Pause deliveries and arrange for pickup of mail/newspapers/packages.
- Have neighbors place and return trash cans on pickup days.
- Use timers for lights, radio, or television.
- Do not announce your absence on voicemail or social media.
- Lock garage doors/windows and consider driveway activity.
- Consider storing valuables in a bank safety deposit box.
- Request placement on Elizabeth Police Department vacation checklist.
Elizabeth Police Department offers vacation checks, at the homeowner's request, to better serve the needs of our community.
